The Fall (2006) – Tarsem Singh bases a film on Arabian paintings. A dubious idea at best.

Mr. Singh is probably most famous for making “The Cell” starring J-Lo. But calling him famous for doing that is practically doing  the guy a favor. The Fall is a story within a story that a movie stuntman, Roy, while hospitalized after a stunt gone wrong that destroyed some of his legs tells a young immigrant girl, Alexandria, who is also there for a broken limb. The structure of the story is like the “The Princess Bride” in that the story telling is interuppted for cute little exchanges between the story teller and the listener. Example of interlude: Roy stops story right before a critical, exciting, and violent chapter in order to bribe Alexandria to steal morphine pills from a nurses office. Classy!  So there isn’t really anything else similiar between Princess Bride and The Fall. The Fall isn’t about murderous revenge or chasing the love of some dude’s life. Except the Fall is about murderous revenge. But that’s it. No more similarities. Oh, and there is someone chasing love. But the two movies are totally different. Which is true.

I normally wouldn’t have written anything about this film because most people won’t bother to see this movie and I wouldn’t try to convince them, because they wouldn’t enjoy this one. And I pander to the masses in a plan to sell out eventually.

BUT if you feel like seeing a movie for $3.50, or less if you Netflix, that’s outside the Hollywood norm, and the Hollywood Indepedant norm, and the Indie norm, this is your movie. The Fall not only breaks the norm it drags Norm out to a cornfield with his brother and savagely breaks all their ribs and facial bones with a baseball bat while Norm screams, “Dominic! Dominic!”

Verdict – Like a blonde with big fake boobs this flick is more fun to look at than listen too.

Deceptively Vindictive Detractor extras

Do you know who holds the record for the most words said without stopping between words or breathing ever?

This guy. Also, I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard a director use the word penis in a promotion campaign.

This is the trailer for ‘The Cell’ which is pretty cool for an epileptic schizophrenic menagerie of bananas insanity. Also, how often do you get to see J-Lo, Vince Vaughn and Vincent Don Offerio in the same 60 seconds. Well, just once now that I think of it.
